Beets are bursting with essential vitamins, minerals and special plant compounds that offer a number of health benefits and medicinal properties.
Many of you may already know that the pigment that makes up the beautiful color of beets, called betalains, possess a number of anti-inflammatory properties, a high antioxidant content and detoxification support. But did you know that beets also contain a number of inorganic nitrates which have blood pressure-lowering effects, can enhance athletic performance by improving the efficiency of your mitochondria, increase oxygen use and blood flow to the brain?!
This is why I often use dehydrated beets as a secret power ingredient in my recipes. They’re some of the most understated jewels of Mother Nature!
