What Is Clean Beauty?

Clean beauty is an umbrella term that covers many types of personal care and cosmetic products. What they all have in common is that they are formulated without ingredients that have been linked to potential harm, either to the body or the environment

Adhering to a clean beauty regimen typically includes avoiding culprits like parabens, synthetic fragrances, sulfates, phthalates, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, many of which have raised concerns around hormone disruption and skin sensitivity.

It’s important to note that “clean” is not a regulated term. There is no single governing body that certifies a product as clean, which means standards can vary between brands and retailers. Reading ingredient labels and doing a little research goes a long way in making choices that feel genuinely aligned with personal values.

For many people, the shift toward clean beauty is part of a broader move toward a non-toxic home and more conscious daily habits. The skin absorbs what is applied to it, and over time, the products used morning and night add up. Choosing cleaner skin care formulations is a simple, meaningful way to reduce the body’s overall exposure to potentially harmful substances.

Transparency matters too. Brands that openly share full ingredient lists and explain their formulation choices make it easier to trust what is going into and onto the body.
