Reiki Master Explained

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice based on the principle that life force energy flows through the body, and that supporting or restoring that flow can promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being

A Reiki master, then, is someone who has reached the highest level of training within this practice. This is someone who has developed the skills to offer healing to others and the qualifications to teach and initiate new practitioners.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: “rei,” meaning universal or spiritual wisdom, and “ki,” meaning life force energy. During a session with a Reiki recipient, a Reiki master channels this energy through their hands, either with light touch or just above the body, to support the recipient’s own natural ability to heal and find balance.

Reiki is a gentle practice, and people experience it in different ways. Some feel warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation during a session. Others notice shifts in mood, clarity, or sleep in the days that follow. It is often used alongside conventional medical care as a complementary support for stress, anxiety, grief, chronic pain, and emotional processing.

Reiki masters have invested significant time, energy, and effort into their training. Becoming a Reiki master involves progressing through multiple levels of training, developing sensitivity to energy, and deepening one’s own personal healing practice over time. For those called to this path, it becomes much more than a credential. It becomes a way of living and relating to the world.

Reiki is one of the more accessible entry points into energy healing for those curious about working with the body’s energetic systems.
